We never thought we would be this excited about hand sanitizer…but it’s 2020 and Sense & Dispense is our new best friend this year! Sense & Dispense™ is a touchless, battery powered unit that comes with replaceable ethyl alcohol based gel sanitizer, with glycerin and vitamin E. It has 70% alcohol (ethyl alcohol… not the stuff that smells like tequila, haha!) to kill germs but also has vitamin E/glycerin to prevent dry hands. It also isn’t sticky and has a light pleasant scent. We love it because not many hand sanitizer dispensers are designed for homes (usually only commercial spaces or office spaces). When the bottle is empty, all you have to do is lock in the new one! It’s extremely easy to connect. One refill bottle has 400 dispenses which will last a couple of months. Indoor air quality is one of the top health concerns by the CDC, EPA and WHO, especially this year! Did you that the air inside can be 200 to 500% dirtier than the air outside. So, upgrading your air filters is a great way to improve your indoor air quality.
To save time and money, you can buy your filters online. Here are a few things you should know before purchasing online: Nominal size is used to label filters and is a rounded number that can vary from the actual size which is the true measured dimensions of the filter. Actual size can vary from one manufacturer to the next. MERV is a filter rating for the efficiency of the filter established by ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). The higher the number, the more efficient the filter.

MERV 8 are white, MERV 11 are blue and MERV 13 are off white. You will notice higher MERV filters have more pleats to help the air flow. Both MERV 11 and 13 are triboelectric or electro static. What does Triboelectric mean? Well, it means that it is using material with dissimilar charges to create an electrostatic charge. This helps draw more particles to the filter from the air flow. Carrier® Infinity Air Purifier
The Infinity air purifier works with most forced air HVAC systems and is a product in the Healthy Homes suite of indoor air quality solutions from Carrier®. With every cycle of air that passes through this patented air purifying system, pollen, animal dander, bacteria and other pollutants are trapped and held tightly to the filter. An electrical charge then bursts the cell walls of pathogens it comes in contact with. Here’s a break down of how this air purifier works:
Particles that may be present in indoor air can recirculate through the HVAC system – The Infinity air purifier treats the air flowing through an HVAC system’s air handler using a three-step, charge/capture/kill process:
- Step One: Charge – the purifier creates a “cloud” of electrically charged ions that attach themselves to airborne dust, pollen, viruses, germs and other particles as they pass through.
- Step Two: Capture – the ionized particles are pulled toward an oppositely charged, pleated MERV 15 rated filter and captured at an extremely high rate, similar to how a magnet attracts metal shavings.
- Step Three: Kill – captured airborne microbes remain on the pleated filter instead of recirculating back into the home and are subjected to an intense electric field. There, 99% of select viruses and bacteria are inactivated.
Testing at the University of Colorado Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering found that the Carrier® Infinity® air purifier inactivates 99% of coronavirus trapped on the filter. Other third-party testing also concluded that Carrier’s Captures & Kills® technology inactivates 99% of select viruses and bacteria trapped on the filter, such as a common cold virus surrogate, Streptococcus pyogenes and human influenza.
